Meet Your Game Directors

Andy Anderson
Thursday Afternoon Game
Andy
learned bridge by watching his co-workers at the Government Tax Office
during lunch breaks in Jamaica, West Indies. This was less than rubber
bridge he later found it to be.
After
college here in USA Andy began playing duplicate bridge at the Bridge Club
in Kingston, N.Y. where he worked for IBM. Its challenges forced
him to go to a larger Bridge Club in Poughkeepsie, twenty-five
miles away, which truly competed strongly against his time for
tennis. Tennis eventually lost the match.
It
was only after moving to Lexington in 1985 that Andy took Bridge more
seriously. He started using his director's license, which he had
acquired during his NY stint. Andy served for several years on
the Lexington, KY Unit 164 Bridge Board.
After
29 years with IBM, Andy taught Materials Science at the University
of Kentucky before finally retiring fulltime to bridge and golf. |

Ray & Kathy Linck
Monday Evening Game

Kathy and Ray started playing duplicate
bridge socially in Wyckoff, NJ in 1970.
They fell in love with the game and bought a
set of boards. They moved to Lexington, KY in 1973 and were quickly
involved in three duplicate bridge groups that played monthly in the
homes of the members.
Ray retired from IBM in November of 1998 and Kathy from the Fayette
County School Board at the same time. They joined ACBL and became
regulars at the Lexington Bridge Club in the spring of 1999. Ray was
elected to the Unit 164 board in 2001 and continues to serve.
Kathy served on the Lexington Bridge Club
board of directors for five years where she was Secretary for four of
those years. They also coordinated the May Bluegrass Sectional
Tournament for five years.
They both got their Director’s Certification
in November 2004 and are regular directors of a weekly game, starting
with novice games in 2005 and now running the Friday open game. |

Mike McCann
Substitute Director
Like
many Bridge Players, Mike started as a "Party" Bridge Player and
learned all his bad habits by learning from his friends and never taking
lessons.After retiring from IBM (28
years), ARDIS (5 years) and Candle Corporation (6 years) which were all
extensive travelling jobs, Mike and Sherry were casting about for things to do
together in retirement. Mike suggested they take up Bridge and finally get
some proper lessons, which they did. He also suggested Sherry take up
SCUBA diving which Mike has enjoyed for 20+ years. She did, and has
enjoyed it ever since. For her part, Sherry suggested they take up
Ballroom Dancing but Mike decided they had enough with Bridge and SCUBA.
Mike and Sherry started playing at the
Lexington Bridge Club about 2000. They have enjoyed the friendship and competitive
level of play ever since.
Early on Mike became interested in the mechanics
of the game and volunteered his services to maintain the club computer, the club
website and our Yahoo Group communications list. He became a Director in
2002 and Directed the Wednesday night Open game for six years retiring in 2009
to a position of substitute Director. In
addition, Mike is the official club janitor and IRS tax compliance officer although some people prefer to call
him the Facilities Manager. |

Anita Pettus
Wednesday Afternoon Game & Teaching

Anita started playing duplicate bridge in 1990 shortly after moving to
Lexington. Prior to that time, she had been teaching in middle schools
in Greenup County.
Anita was lucky enough to find mentors who moved her along quickly into
the enticing world of bridge. She recently became a Silver Life
Master.
Over the years Anita has served on the club's board several times
and taught many classes to all levels of students. In the late 90's she
started a bridge plus game on Wednesday which evolved into the current
Wednesday morning open game.

Georgia Ringo
Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Evening, Sunday Afternoon Games & Teaching
Georgia
played at bridge for 30 years before coming to the club and learning
how to play competitive bridge using modern bidding. She entered the
scene in the fall of 2002. In
the spring of 2005, at the urging of Ann McCullough, Georgia took a
class from Priscilla Smith at the Gatlinburg Regional to be an accredited
teacher of EasyBridge. With Ann McCullough as director and partner
Lorraine Gibbs as teaching partner, the three of them opened the first
Summer Camp for kids in June, 2005. Now with four summer camps
behind them, they are looking forward to the fifth and hope to take a
group to nationals in Washington, DC, at the conclusion of camp in 2009. In
the summer of 2007, Georgia took the directors' course at the nationals in
Nashville again under the tutelage of Priscilla Smith. That fall,
she began directing a 49-er game on Friday evenings. Now she directs
that game on Sunday and a 199-er Mentor/Mentee game on Tuesdays. Because
she liked the teaching methods used by Edith McMullin and Marti Ronemus in
the EasyBridge series, she gave adult lessons one summer. Then
Georgia decided her niche was to give drop-in workshops for those already
playing but wanting to improve their game. She offers EB1 and EB2
workshops twice a week on a rotating series basis. Sometime
before the camps started, she earned the rank of Life Master, and between
camps and directing, she became a Bronze Life Master. |
